Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
In India, training in dentistry is through a 5-year BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) course, which includes 4 years of study followed by one year of internship. As of 2010, there were a total of 291 colleges (39 run by the government and 252 in the private sector) offering dental education. This amounts to an annual intake of 23,690 graduates.
The BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the only degree in field of dentistry which give option to learn dental surgery in India.
The BDS degree is awarded on the successful completion of the four-year academic education and the one year mandatory internship. After completing your BDS, you are qualified to practice as a dentist.
The Dental Council of India is the only accredited body for the dental programmes.

The BDS is a 5 year (4 years academic education + 1 year mandatory internship) Under Graduate degree programme.

Eligibility of BDS:
12th (10+2) examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
The students have to score minimum 50% marks (40% in the case of reserved category) in plus two and have to appear for an entrance examination.
Entrance exam for BDS
Admissions into BDS programmes will be done through entrance test. Students can appear in entrance exam organized at national or university level examinations. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is considered for providing admission to BDS courses.
