Principles of Mahatma Gandhi are they valid today?

Background

Satya

The pivotal and defining element of Gandhism is satya. A Sanskrit word usually translated into English as truth. The principle of Satya as espoused by Gandhi needed that Truth must pervade all considerations of politics, ego, society and convention.

Brahmacharya

Brahmacharya or Celibacy was important to Gandhi for not only purifying himself of any lust and sexual urges, but also to purify his love for his wife as genuine and not an outlet for any turmoil or aggression within his mind.

Ahimsa

Ahimsa, or non-violence, was another key tenet of Gandhi's beliefs. He held that total non-violence would rid a person of anger, obsession and destructive impulses.

Khadi

Gandhi also adopted the clothing style of most Indians in the early 20th century. His adoption of khadi, or homespun cloth, was intended to help eradicate the evils of poverty, social and economic discrimination.

Fasting

To Gandhi, fasting was an important method of exerting mental control over base desires.

Religion

Universalism denotes the ideology that all religions are true and therefore worthy of toleration and respect.

Favor

  • Yes indeed his principles are valid and eternal.

  • Satya still holds enough respect in human society. People only respect who stay with truth. Even few people sack their integrity for midget profits. But for mental satisfaction and guilt free life one need to stay with truth.

  • Nonviolence is base of civilized human society. If humans involve in violence then what is difference between humans and animals.

  • Khadi is for poor and good for economy.

  • Fasting cleans body.

  • Religions equality is must for humans to survive in upcoming future.

  • Principles of gandhi ji are eternal. Those were useful in past and will be valid in future.

Against

  • Satya or truth is not valid in today's capitalist world. A business man can't speak truth all the time. Even our advertisement hides reality and sells fakeness.

  • Ahimsa or nonviolence is good till a point. But if you only bear the pain others giving you then it is not justified.

  • These principles are not valid in present as modern times human made different standards in their societies from the past. In past religions had very powerful influence over society but now religions are eloping.

Conclusion

  • Principles of Ghandhi ji are universal. It's just present human society more focusing on the showoff and money. But these principles are eternal.

Point:

I think that these prevails laid foundation for most UN conventions and various human rights declarations. Although capitaism and greedy minds are messing up some on the insights and ideals of Gandi, these 11 principles should still prevail and be reflected on in everyday lifestyles. Bravo Gandi!

Point: These principles are universal but common man cannot adhere to these principles due to his inherrent ignorance. Life offers many tempting situations to test our character. Adherance to truth even under severe stress is possible only when our acquired knowledge of the Universe supports it.

Point: Gandhi served british goverment by spreading non violence. But after british raj he advised people to arm themself for self defence during Hindu vs muslim conflict. Conclusion is Gandhi was not firm on his principles. He was a politician who disagreed and agreed on two nation theory. India remains divided still without pakistan and bangladesh. We need a strong leader to redefine our border without war.

Point: No definetly the true Indian GAndhi ji's principles are not followed by maximum people. This world is fully selfish and always values to the money and position. People are never true. He dedicated his life for this country, but there are lot more pitfalls here. But fortunately there are legends like Abdul Kalam sir in our generation too, through him altleast people must change.

Point: gandhian principles are still valid today, the core structure is the same but the facade has changed.successful crusade of anna hazare proves that these values still hold good.so many naxalites surrendered just because of the peace programs.but on the other hand use of force and power is also valid if we talk about eradication of terrorism.so gandian values exist today, with the same core values but the way of expression to that has changed of it has been contemporise.

Point: what is the mean by satya? but when any says 100 lie that any says one rtrth one truth is definatly havey than lie. Ganshi ji's principle was unic are unic will unic. whenever satya finished form the world that time definatly world will finished. I think without "SATYA"who is Gandhi?

Point: Yes, Gandhiji's priciples are valid today and there is no need to give reasons to prove it because what anna hazare is doing is the repeatition of that by which govt. of india is afraid of.
