InformationIn just four decades IIMA has evolved from being India's premiermanagement institute to a notable international school of management. Itall started with Dr Vikram Sarabhai and a few other public spiritedindustrialists realizing that agriculture, education, health, transportation, population control, energy, and public administration wereall vital elements in a growing society and that it was necessary to linkthese meaningfully with industry. The result was the creation of theIndian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1961 as an autonomous bodywith the active collaboration of the Government of India, Government ofGujarat, and industry. It was evident that to have a vision was not enough. Effectivegovernance and quality education were seen as critical aspects. From thevery start the founders introduced the concept of faculty governance: allmembers of the faculty play an important role in administering the diverseacademic and non-academic activities of the Institute. The empowerment ofthe faculty has been the propelling force behind the high quality oflearning experience at IIMA. The Institute had initial collaboration withHarvard Business School. This collaboration greatly influenced theInstitute's approach to education. Gradually it emerged as a confluence ofthe best of Eastern and Western values.Financial AidIt is the endeavour of the IIMA that no studentbe denied opportunity to pursue the PGP for want of adequate financialresources. The IIMA has, therefore, instituted its own comprehensiveNeed-based Scholarship Scheme to complement the scholarship schemes thatit operates with assistance from industry and government. The IIMA'sNeed-based Scholarships are awarded to needy students from economicallydisadvantaged families. The IIMA also operates its own scholarship /partial fee-waiver scheme for all PGP students belonging to the ScheduledCastes / Scheduled Tribes. In addition, the Government of IndiaMerit-cum-Means scholarship is also available to PGP students, providedthey satisfy the merit and means criteria laid down by the Institute /Government of India.Educational loans are also now easily available from NationalizedBanks.Admission Process for PGP-ABMEvery year, IIMA selects 30students for the PGP-ABM. The admission process consists of the nationallyadministered Common Admission Test, candidate's academic record, workexperience, group discussion and personal interview. All Indian Nationals whetherresident in India or Abroad can take CAT.If the candidate has taken CATlast year or the year before he is eligible to apply.
